Saturday July 20

10:00 AM  –  12:00 PM

Let's dig into Community-Supported Agriculture. We'll visit Bloomtown and Sanctuary Farms, two growers in the City Commons collective of local farms that team up to provide weekly veggies and flowers to their members.

We'll start in the East Poletown neighborhood at Bloomtown, where in 2021 Lis Chere Thomas began growing beautiful, unique, and chemical-free cut flowers in 2021, along with perennial fruit, beehives, and vegetables. Lis will show us around the gardens and share their knowledge of soil health, biodiversity, and farming in areas with historic industrial impacts like Detroit.

We'll then travel to the eastside to Sanctuary Farms, founded by Parker Jean and jøn kent in 2020. Sanctuary Farms grows a variety of hearty greens, root vegetables, corn, and squash, focusing on permaculture, diverting food waste, and honoring the land. Parker will explain how the food loop works; growing food and creating compost with food waste from restaurants and households. There is also a nature sanctuary with native plants.

This is an outdoor tour in natural areas.

$25 members, $35 general public. Members, please log in; discount will be reflected at checkout.
