BTS - Devries & Henry the Hatter

Sunday June 16

Other dates...

10:00 AM  –  11:00 AM

Join us as we are treated to the incredible history of two of Detroit's oldest businesses located in the Historic Eastern Market. Devries & Co has been in the same family since 1887 and the shop still holds its old-world charm. Taking up three floors in an historic Eastern Market building, its offerings include cheese, specialty food items on the first floor, garden decor on the second floor as well as outside, and Detroit/Michigan-centric gifts and products on the 3rd floor. We’ll even get to ride in the historic elevator! There is something for everyone inside Devries.

We’ll also explore Henry the Hatter, located a 1/2 block from Devries. They have settled into their new home inside another historic Eastern Market building. Henry the Hatter has been in Detroit since 1890 and boasts the title of the oldest hat retailer in the United States. President Dwight D. Eisenhower even wore one of their hats at his inauguration in 1953. They have been keeping Detroit and America looking dapper for over 100 years.
