On this Behind the Scenes tour of The Whitney, take a guided stroll through the Mansion while sipping champagne*.
The David Whitney Jr. House was built by successful lumber baron David Whitney Jr., one of Michigan’s wealthiest citizens and the wealthiest man in Detroit. He was worth more than $15 million at the time of his death in 1900 (nearly $500 million in today's economy).
This 25,000 square foot iconic home is famous for its Romanesque Revival style, its rose-colored South Dakota jasper exterior, and its ornate, lavish interior architecture.
