Future of Monuments Visioning Session

This event is no longer on sale.

Sunday March 3

1:00 PM  –  4:00 PM

Join Detroit Historical Museum and Preservation Detroit for a visioning session as we explore the evolving role and future of monuments and public art in shaping our collective cultural identity, historical narratives, and commemorative landscapes.

In this interactive session, we'll re-imagine and design new ideas for public art in Detroit  and delve deep into thought-provoking questions such as:

  • What stories do our current monuments tell, and whose voices are missing?

  • How can public art better reflect the diversity and complexity of our community?

  • What stories need to be told?

  • What new forms and mediums can we embrace to create more inclusive and dynamic representations of history and culture?

Guided by experts in art, history, and community engagement, participants will have the opportunity to share their insights, aspirations, and dreams for the future history of public art in Detroit.

Through creative brainstorming exercises and open dialogue, we'll co-create a vision that honors the past while envisioning a more inclusive, equitable, and vibrant future.

Together, let's ignite the spark of imagination and pave the way for a new era of monuments and public art that truly reflects the richness and diversity of Detroit's heritage and its people.
