Lecture: Schlussel Bathhouse Archaeology - Julia DiLaura

In 1907 Louis Schlussel opened a bathhouse at the corner of Alfred and St. Antoine streets, featuring Detroit’s first documented mikveh (Jewish ritual bath).  Come learn about the 2019 archaeological dig that recovered a fascinating and forgotten slice of history. Following the lecture, attendees are invited to see the Schlussel Bathhouse artifacts on display in In the Neighborhood: Everyday Life on Hastings Street, Jewish Historical Society of Michigan’s exhibition located in the Robert and Mary Ann Bury Community Gallery (2^nd floor).
