In honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary, the Detroit Historical Society commemorates July 11, 1796—the day the United States flag first flew over Detroit as British departed. On that pivotal day, Detroit and the Northwest Territory transferred to the young republic, adding land larger than the original thirteen colonies and marking a decisive step toward American expansion.

Presented by Joel Stone - DHS Curator Emeritus

Part of the Detroit Historical Society Quad Anniversary Lecture Series.

The museum will be open 5-8pm with free admission.
