Yiddish Film Night "Uncle Moses"

Thursday June 20

Other dates...

6:00 PM  –  8:30 PM

When poverty and persecution compel his Polish landsmen (person from the same town or region) to leave their shtetl, "Uncle" Moses, the crude and lusty former butcher, welcomes them to the promised land of his Lower East Side clothing factory.  But is it the land of milk and honey for all?  On loan from the National Center for Jewish Film, this famous and entertaining Yiddish talkie (based on Shalom Asch’s novel and starring Maurice Schwartz) includes brand-new English subtitles. Before the film, visit In the Neighborhood: Everyday Life on Hastings Street, Jewish Historical Society of Michigan’s exhibition located in the Robert and Mary Ann Bury Community Gallery (2nd floor).

This is a free event.

Presented by Jewish Historical Society of Michigan.
